In a strategic move aimed at easing congestion in the capital and strengthening field-level policing, the Himachal Pradesh Police has officially shifted its Directorate of Communication & Technical Services (C&TS) from Shimla to Hamirpur.

The transition, which became effective on Monday, marks a significant administrative reform under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The directorate has now started full-fledged operations from its new location in Hamirpur, with logistical support provided by the district administration.

Previously, the C&TS directorate was functioning from the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau building in Shimla. However, during the recent budget session, the state government announced its decision to relocate the office as part of a broader effort to decentralize administrative functions and reduce pressure on the capital city.

The formal relocation order was issued by Director General of Police Ashok Tewari, following which nearly 40 staff members were transferred to Hamirpur to ensure smooth operations.

Officials believe the move will significantly improve coordination between technical units and field forces. By positioning critical communication infrastructure closer to operational zones, the police department expects faster response times, better decision-making, and enhanced efficiency in handling law enforcement activities.

Speaking on the development, DGP Ashok Tewari highlighted that this step will strengthen the state’s policing framework. He emphasized that improved technical support and quicker communication channels will lead to more effective service delivery across districts.

The relocation is also seen as a progressive step toward balanced regional development, bringing key administrative functions closer to smaller districts while reducing overcrowding in Shimla.

With this shift, Hamirpur is set to emerge as an important hub for police communication and technical operations in Himachal Pradesh, signaling a new phase in the state’s governance and law enforcement strategy.
