Property tax is not being paid by government departments, notices are being issued to the departments by the Municipal Corporation
(Shimla) Himachal Pradesh, Kumud Sharma, January 22: Many government departments that teach the people of the capital Shimla about the rules and regulations are themselves not able to follow the rules these days. Despite receiving repeated notices from the Municipal Corporation Shimla, property tax is not being paid by many government departments and due to this, now the Municipal Corporation is going to take strict action against them. The Municipal Corporation has prepared a list of such government offices and government departments that do not pay tax and notices are being issued to them.
Final notices have been issued to Education, Public Works Department, IGMC, Government’s Willy Park Circuit House, Central Government Press for tax payment.
According to the Municipal Corporation, tax of about Rs 65 lakh is pending from the Willy Park Circuit House including the government’s Chaura Maidan, similarly tax of Rs 48 lakh is to be taken from the Central Press. The Municipal Corporation is getting only half the tax from the new building of IGMC Shimla.
Municipal Corporation Mayor Surinder Chauhan said that the Municipal Corporation is still due to collect tax of two years from the Congress Headquarters, for which the Municipal Corporation has issued notices to the Congress Headquarters several times.
He said that the construction work of the Municipal Corporation is getting delayed due to the tax amount of crores being stuck with the government departments.
Mayor Surinder Chauhan told Diary Times that, “Our tax target is that last year we collected about 15 to 16 crore rupees. This year our target is to collect about 18-19 crore rupees. We will collect about three to four crore rupees more. We still have two more months, February and March till 31st March. But as you asked, we are also giving notices for tax. We are giving notices to all the private and government institutions. I want to tell through you that my request to everyone will be that it is a responsible responsibility. That everyone, whether government agencies, government offices or private, should pay taxes.”
