Shimla- In the past 24 hrs, The area of lower Hills like district Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and lower part of Mandi, Solan and Sirmour. and Middle Hills like some parts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi remain dry. Whereas, in areas of High Hills like Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, and some parts of Chamba and Kullu rainfall along with mild snowfall was observed. In the upcoming 5 days, there is a chance of heavy rainfall in all the areas of  Himachal Pradesh. But there is no large change in the minimum and maximum temperature during the last 24 hours. The average minimum and maximum temperatures were below normal. Today the lowest temperature was recorded at Keylong = 0.2 degrees Celsius and yesterday’s highest temperature was recorded at Paonta sahib =36 degrees Celsius. The Western Disturbance,i.e, according to the Meteorological Department disturbance is a disturbance caused due to storms that originate in the Caspian or Mediterranean Sea and bring Non- Monsoonal monsoon in the Northern part of the state and Himachal Pradesh is part of Northern India. a cyclonic circulation over Iraq and the neighborhood now lies over Iran between 3.1 & 906 km above the mean sea level. A Western disturbance is also called an extratropical storm.

 What is the chief amount of Snowfall and Rainfall?

 According to the Ministry of Earth Science and Meteorological Department of India. Today the chief amount of snowfall is traced in the area of middle hills in Keylong and Koksar, and various places in the state observed Rainfall in the past 24 hrs. The chief amount of rainfall in millimeters ( mm) recorded in Himachal Pradesh within 24 hours in areas of Chamba ( 6.5 ), Bharmaur ( 5.8 ), Dalhousie ( 3.0 ), places like Renuka, Sarahan, Kasol and Manali the chief amount of rainfall observed is 2mm each. Whereas in areas of Rampur, Sangla, and Kalpa ( moving village of Himachal Pradesh ) the chief amount of rainfall observed is 1 mm each.

Lahaul & Spiti Police Weather Advisory: Road Condition and Weather Update

Lahaul & Spiti police Weather and Road status Report says that ATR North Portal to Darcha Road is open, Darcha to Shinkula Road is open, SKTT Road Tandi to Kadhu Nullah Road is open, and Sumdo to Lossar Road is open. As you know the police checkpost at Darcha was opened Yesterday, i.e., 11th April. And it is back in action to maintain law and order and enhance the security of the state which is an essential part of any state affairs and also a primary concern of the state.  These roads are opened till further orders are passed by the District Disaster Management Authority of Himachal Pradesh. Surender Paul, the director of the Meteorological Centre at Shimla attributed the shift in weather between 13th April – 15 15th April to this may affect the performance and status of these roads in the future.

Lahaul & Spiti police Weather and Road status Report also says that Darcha to Sarachu road and Gramphu to Lossar are closed due to avalanches and heavy rainfall.  As per the data, Over 700 Roads remain blocked in many parts of Himachal Pradesh and these are the major roads whose blockage affects the economy of the state. As we all know Himachal Pradesh is one of the best tourist places in summer for visitors. Being situated in the northern part of India it serves pleasant weather to residents and visitors. these roads are closed till further order of the District Disaster Management Authority of Himachal Pradesh.

The weather report given by the Lahaul & Spiti police says that the areas of Low hills like Tindi, South Portal, and areas of Middle hills like Keylong, Kaza, Sumdo, and areas of High hills like North Portal and SCP Darcha are clear. According to the data of the Present Weather Detector, in the subdivision of Udaipur, the number of roads blocked is 84, but this number increased in the sub-division of Spiti to 121. And total number of roads blocked in the district of Lahaul & Spiti is 125. Which affects the locals and visitors to enjoy the ever-changing weather of Himachal Pradesh. No cases of lansliding are seen in this area and the weather seems to be clear in this district. The rulers of Baralacha La and Kunzum Pass, are closed until the summer of 2024. This closure is based on the order given by the District Disaster Management Authority of Shimla after seeing the weather conditions in this area on 17 November 2023. Now, let’s break it down a bit. Baralacha La Pass and Kunzum Pass are Mountain passes located in the Indian Himalayas. The BRO Road stretches refers to the road maintained by the Border Roads Organisation, which is crucial for connecting remote areas in the region. The closure until the summer of 2024 means that these passes and the roads leading to them will not be accessible to travelers’ vehicles until that time. This closure could be due to various reasons but ever-changing conditions are very important. so, if you are planning to travel from these areas then please find alternatives.

According to the Ministry of Earth Science and Meteorological Department of India, the weather at Shimla is partly cloudy with a temperature of 22.4 Degrees Celsius and a 15% chance of precipitation. And in areas of Satluj, Beas, and Ranjit Sagar there is a possibility of rain at isolated places. There is the possibility of light precipitation at isolated places in the districts of Chamba,  Kullu, Shimla, and Kinnaur. And there is no such report regarding other parts of the state.
