Himachal Civic Poll Results Reflect Public Anger Against Congress Government, Says BJP Chief Rajeev Bindal

Addressing a press conference in Dharamsala, Bindal said the civic poll results had provided an indication of the political mood ahead of the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. He alleged that the Congress government failed to make a strong impact in several areas despite what he described as the “misuse of government machinery”.
According to the BJP leader, the election results showed that people were unhappy with the functioning and policies of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government.
“The Congress could not even put up a fight in many places. The election results are a clear mandate against the state government and indicate that people want a change,” Bindal said.
BJP Claims Strong Performance in Civic Elections
Bindal claimed that the BJP received strong support across municipal corporations, urban local bodies and panchayat elections. He specifically highlighted the party’s performance in the Municipal Corporations of Mandi, Dharamsala and Solan, where BJP candidates defeated Congress nominees.
The BJP state president also accused the Congress of creating a misleading impression about its performance in the civic polls. He alleged that the ruling party had not fielded official candidates in several areas, which, according to him, affected the overall picture of the election results.
Bindal Raises Questions Over Urban Local Body Rules
Launching another attack on the state government, Bindal alleged that rules related to urban local bodies were amended after the elections to give the government greater control over civic institutions.
The BJP leader questioned the timing of the alleged changes and claimed that the move raised concerns about the functioning and autonomy of urban local bodies in the state.
BJP Targets Congress Government Over Unemployment and Law and Order
Bindal also accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil several promises made during the 2022 Assembly election campaign.
He cited unemployment, pending demands of government employees, law and order concerns and the growing drug menace as major issues contributing to public dissatisfaction in Himachal Pradesh.
The BJP leader alleged that the government had failed to address these concerns effectively and claimed that they could become important political issues ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Healthcare and Himcare Scheme Also Under BJP Attack
On the healthcare front, Bindal alleged that patients visiting government hospitals were often left with prescriptions without receiving adequate treatment facilities.
He also accused the state government of discontinuing the Himcare health insurance scheme and claimed that financial assistance meant for patients suffering from serious illnesses was not being released on time.
The BJP leader further alleged that the increasing spread of heroin, locally known as “chitta”, had become a serious concern in Himachal Pradesh. He accused the government of failing to take effective steps to control the drug menace.
With the BJP intensifying its criticism of the Congress government, the civic poll results are likely to remain a key political talking point in Himachal Pradesh as parties begin preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections.
