Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district has triggered landslides and severely disrupted road connectivity, with National Highway-5 being blocked near Cholling, approximately 25 kilometres from Reckong Peo.

According to local reports, intense overnight rainfall on Thursday led to a massive accumulation of mud, rocks and debris sliding onto the highway, bringing traffic movement to a complete halt. Authorities have initiated efforts to clear the affected stretch and restore connectivity at the earliest.

Several vehicles were caught in the debris flow, with at least two vehicles reportedly buried under the landslide material. Fortunately, no injuries or loss of life have been reported so far.

Panic in Ribba Village After Intense Rainfall

Residents of Ribba village experienced anxious moments during the early hours of Friday as heavy rainfall continued across the region. The sudden increase in rainfall has raised concerns among locals, particularly in vulnerable mountainous areas prone to landslides during the monsoon season.

The southwest monsoon entered Himachal Pradesh only a few days ago, but its impact is already being felt across multiple districts. Kinnaur has emerged as one of the worst-affected regions, witnessing early signs of monsoon-related damage.

IMD Issues Orange Alert for Kangra and Mandi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Kangra and Mandi districts on Friday, warning residents and tourists to remain cautious.

Additionally, a yellow alert has been announced for Kullu, Shimla, Sirmaur and Una districts, where isolated spells of heavy rain are expected over the next 24 hours.

Officials have advised travellers to check weather and road conditions before planning journeys in hilly regions, as continued rainfall could increase the risk of fresh landslides, flash floods and traffic disruptions.

Safety Advisory for Residents and Tourists

Authorities have urged people living in landslide-prone areas to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Emergency teams remain on standby as the monsoon season gains momentum across Himachal Pradesh.

With more rain forecast in the coming days, residents are being advised to closely monitor official weather updates and follow safety instructions issued by local administrations.
