Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged the United States to provide anti-ballistic missiles to Ukraine as Russia continues to intensify its aerial attacks across the country. The appeal came during Zelenskyy’s meeting with US Congress representatives Richard Blumenthal and Jim Himes in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian leader said he had formally written to the White House and members of the US Congress, requesting urgent military assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system against increasing Russian missile strikes.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, Zelenskyy described the visit as important during what he called “difficult days” following one of the largest recent Russian attacks on Ukraine.

“We discussed further support for Ukraine, specifically in strengthening air defence,” Zelenskyy said. “We have a significant need for anti-ballistic missiles due to constant Russian shelling.”

Ukraine Faces Growing Missile Threats

Ukraine has been facing continuous missile and drone attacks from Russia in recent weeks. According to Ukraine’s air force, Russia launched around 30 ballistic missiles during a large-scale attack on Sunday, but only 11 were successfully intercepted.

The rising number of missile strikes has increased pressure on Kyiv to secure advanced defence systems from its Western allies. Zelenskyy stressed that timely military assistance from the United States remains critical for protecting Ukrainian cities and civilians.

During the meeting, Zelenskyy also briefed the US lawmakers about the latest battlefield developments and Russia’s military losses.

“Our partners clearly see that Russia is suffering enormous losses,” he stated, while emphasizing the importance of maintaining international sanctions against Moscow.

Russia Warns of More Strikes on Kyiv

The latest developments come after Russia’s Defence Ministry warned earlier this week that it plans to carry out a “series of systematic strikes” targeting defence-industrial facilities in Kyiv.

Moscow claimed the planned attacks were in response to a Ukrainian drone strike last week that reportedly hit a student dormitory in Starobilsk in the occupied Luhansk region.

However, Ukraine denied targeting the dormitory and said its forces had actually struck an elite Russian drone command unit instead.

Since the incident, Russia has reportedly increased the intensity of its attacks on Ukrainian territory, further escalating tensions in the ongoing war.

Ukraine and US Also Discuss Drone Cooperation

Apart from missile defence support, Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine is also working with the United States on a potential “Drone Deal” aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries.

The discussions highlight Kyiv’s growing focus on modern warfare technologies as the conflict with Russia continues into another challenging phase.

With Russia ramping up missile attacks and Ukraine pushing for stronger Western support, the coming weeks are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the next phase of the conflict.
