In a significant move to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, the Himachal Pradesh government is planning to establish a state-of-the-art Integrated Mother and Child Hospital at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla.

The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, where senior officials from the Health Department were present. The Chief Minister has directed the formation of a dedicated committee under Health Secretary Ashish Singhmar to identify suitable space within the IGMC premises for the new facility.

Focus on “Healthcare Under One Roof”

The government’s vision is clear — to provide comprehensive and world-class healthcare services under a single roof, especially for mothers and children. This integrated hospital aims to streamline treatment, reduce patient movement between departments, and improve overall healthcare delivery.

Push for Zero Waiting Time in Diagnostics

In a patient-centric approach, the Chief Minister also emphasized minimizing delays in diagnostic services. He called for innovative suggestions to ensure “zero waiting time” for tests and reports in medical colleges, a move that could significantly improve treatment outcomes.

Advanced Equipment & Better Staffing

The state government is actively working on upgrading healthcare facilities by installing advanced medical equipment and addressing staff shortages. According to officials, recruitment is underway to fill vacancies in medical, paramedical, and technical positions across institutions.

Sukhu highlighted that accurate diagnosis is the backbone of effective treatment and stressed the importance of modern diagnostic systems.

Health & Education Remain Top Priority

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister stated that healthcare and education are top priority sectors, with sufficient funding allocated for their development. He also hinted at major reforms aimed at strengthening both sectors in the long run.

Senior officials, including Health Special Secretary Jatender Sanjta, were present during the meeting and contributed to discussions on improving healthcare services in the state.
