Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to address party district presidents at a major organisational workshop in Dharamsala today, marking a significant step in the party’s efforts to rebuild its grassroots strength.
The interaction will take place during the closing session of a 10-day training program आयोजित under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, where 62 district-level office-bearers from three states have undergone intensive training.
According to party officials, Rahul Gandhi will be present from morning till early afternoon and is expected to engage directly with participants, offering guidance on strengthening the party’s structure at the ground level.
Focus on Grassroots Politics
The workshop, held in Himachal Pradesh for the first time, has focused on equipping leaders with both theoretical understanding and practical exposure. Sessions covered topics such as India’s political history, the evolution of the Congress party, and current economic and political challenges facing the country.
Senior Congress leaders, including Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and AICC in-charge Rajni Patil, have already reached Dharamsala ahead of the event, highlighting its importance.
Learning Beyond Classrooms
What sets this workshop apart is its practical approach. Participants were taken to rural areas, where they interacted with farmers and worked alongside beneficiaries of welfare schemes like MGNREGA. The aim was to help leaders connect with real issues faced by people at the grassroots level.
Party insiders say this hands-on experience is designed to build empathy and improve problem-solving at the local level—something the Congress sees as crucial ahead of upcoming elections.
Strategy Ahead of Elections
The timing of the workshop is particularly important. The Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee had remained inactive for over a year, creating a leadership gap at the local level. With panchayat and urban body elections approaching, the party is now focusing on rebuilding its base.
Congress leaders believe the newly trained district and block presidents will play a key role in mobilising support and reconnecting with voters.
Why This Matters
Rahul Gandhi’s presence at the event signals the party’s renewed focus on organisational strength. As the Congress looks to regain momentum, initiatives like this training program could shape its strategy in the months ahead.
