Israel-Hezbollah Clash Continues Despite Ceasefire Extension, Tensions Rise in Southern Lebanon

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated once again on Friday, as both sides exchanged fresh attacks despite the recent announcement of a three-week ceasefire extension between Israel and Lebanon. The developments raise serious concerns over the stability of the already fragile truce.
According to reports, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) carried out targeted airstrikes on Hezbollah rocket launchers in the southern Lebanese towns of Yater and Kafra. Israeli officials claimed that these launchers posed an immediate threat to both military personnel and civilians.
Meanwhile, the situation on the ground turned deadly. Lebanon’s Health Ministry confirmed that at least six people were killed and two others injured in the Israeli airstrikes, further intensifying fears among local residents already living under uncertainty.
On the other side, Hezbollah responded with a counterattack, stating that it targeted an Israeli armoured personnel carrier in the southern town of Ramyah. The group described the strike as retaliation for what it called Israel’s continued destruction of civilian homes in southern Lebanon—actions it believes violate the ceasefire agreement.
The escalation comes just a day after the United States announced a diplomatic breakthrough. US President Donald Trump revealed that both Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their ceasefire by an additional three weeks following high-level discussions.
Speaking at the White House, Trump expressed cautious optimism, stating that both nations are moving toward a possible resolution. However, he also acknowledged the complexity of the situation, pointing out that Hezbollah remains a significant factor in the conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also weighed in, suggesting that while efforts toward what he described as a “historic peace” have begun, Hezbollah is attempting to disrupt the progress. Netanyahu further highlighted ongoing cooperation between Israel and the United States, particularly regarding pressure on Iran.
Despite diplomatic efforts, the continued exchange of fire signals that peace remains uncertain. With both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the extension leads to stability or further escalation in the region.
