Mandi, June 17 – A tragic road accident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Pattrighat area of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh. A private bus travelling from Jahu to Mandi lost control amid heavy rain and plunged into a deep gorge. Around 30–35 passengers were on board at the time.

Fatalities: One passenger died at the scene.

Injuries: An estimated 20–25 people sustained injuries. One passenger, trapped beneath the bus, suffered severe trauma, including fractures to both legs, and has been referred to Nerchowk Medical College in critical condition.
Rescue Operations
Local villagers, police, and district authorities rushed to the site immediately after receiving the alert. Rescue efforts were hampered by heavy rainfall, slippery terrain, and poor visibility. Using cranes and other equipment, teams lifted the bus to reach those trapped underneath. Two individuals were discovered beneath the vehicle—one deceased and the other badly injured.
Probable Cause
Continuous rainfall since Monday night left the roads slick and visibility low. Preliminary assessments suggest the driver may have lost control due to these hazardous conditions.
Official Response
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution in inclement weather and reminded private bus operators to avoid speeding or negligent driving. Rescue and relief operations remain a top priority, with injured passengers receiving medical care and further investigations under way to determine the precise cause of the accident.
