Himachal: Son of Late Army Veteran Dies in the Line of Duty, 25-Year-Old Naveen Martyred in Kargil

Dharamshala, May 21:
In a tragic incident, Agniveer Naveen Kumar (25) from Halun village in Thural, part of the Sulah Assembly constituency in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district, laid down his life in the service of the nation. He was martyred on the night of May 20 after being caught in a landslide while on duty in the Drass sector of Kargil, Jammu and Kashmir.

Naveen was serving in the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles unit of the Indian Army. Unmarried, he is survived by his mother Ayodhya Devi, grandparents Bhumi Ram and Champa Devi, uncle Ashok Kumar, aunt Manju Devi, and brother-in-law Munish Kumar. His sister Shivani is married. Naveen’s father, late Rajmal, was a retired Havildar from the 13 JAK Rifles and had passed away about five years ago.

Naveen’s mortal remains will reach his native village on Thursday, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. The entire village is mourning the loss, paying tribute to his courage and sacrifice.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed profound grief over the martyrdom. In his message, he prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength for the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

The Chief Minister said,
“The nation has lost a brave son. Agniveer Naveen Kumar’s sacrifice will always be remembered with pride and gratitude.”
