Kangra, May 15:
As soon as the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) announced the Class 10 results, one name quickly stood out — Saina Thakur, a brilliant student from Model Public Senior Secondary School, Bhawarna in Kangra district. She topped the state with an impressive 696 out of 700 marks. But amid the celebrations, a curious question emerged: if she scored full marks in five subjects, where did those four missing marks go?
A look at Saina’s marksheet provides the answer. She secured a perfect 100 in English, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, and Computer Science — an outstanding feat by any standard. However, in Hindi and Sanskrit, she scored 98 each. A minor deduction of just two marks in each language subject kept her from achieving a perfect score. The reason could likely be subtle grammatical slips or nuances in presentation — often a factor in language evaluations. Still, her performance remains a remarkable achievement and a source of inspiration for thousands of students across the state.
A Close Contest for the Top Spot
The student who claimed second place, Ridima Sharma, also drew admiration for her stellar performance. What made her stand out was her perfect score of 100 in Sanskrit and 98 in Hindi — equal to Saina’s. However, slight deductions in other subjects made the difference. Ridima scored 99 in English, 98 in Social Science, and 98 in Hindi, losing a total of five marks across three subjects. Despite the narrow margin, her determination and dedication remain unquestionable. That single point difference placed her just behind the top rank, but her achievement continues to shine brightly.
Saina Aims to Become an IAS Officer
Saina has her eyes set on becoming an IAS officer — a goal driven by her desire to make a meaningful impact on society and bring pride to her country. She shared that her preparation across all subjects was done with diligence, discipline, and a clear strategy. Her parents, Sandeep Kumar and Poonam, were overwhelmed with joy, calling it the proudest moment of their lives. The school management also expressed their pride in her accomplishment and announced a special felicitation in her honor.
Saina and Ridima are not just toppers — they have become role models for countless young girls across Himachal Pradesh.
