Shimla, May 14:
In a startling revelation, police in the Sunni area of Shimla district have arrested two men who were allegedly using an ambulance to peddle chitta (heroin). Acting on a tip-off from a local resident, authorities seized 2 grams of the drug from their possession. A case has been registered under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
The bust came after Rajesh, a vigilant local from Basantpur and son of Kishori Lal, received information that some individuals were using an ambulance (registration number HP 07F-1670) to sell drugs in the area. Sensing the seriousness of the matter, Rajesh, along with other locals, intercepted the vehicle in Basantpur.
During questioning, one of the occupants, identified as Jitesh Chauhan, reportedly revealed a small packet of chitta hidden in the dashboard. Locals immediately alerted the Sunni police station, and a team rushed to the spot. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 2 grams of the substance and took both suspects into custody for interrogation.
The accused have been identified as Jitesh Chauhan (26), a resident of Guma, and Deepanshu Chauhan (29), from Lower Fagli in Shimla district. According to police sources, the ambulance was being operated by a private organization. Preliminary findings suggest the duo intentionally carried only small quantities of the drug at a time to avoid attracting police attention.
An officer involved in the case stated that an in-depth investigation is ongoing. Authorities are now trying to trace the source of the chitta, the buyers, and determine whether a larger network is involved.
