Shimla: Fire Breaks Out at Army Dispensary in Summerhill, Major Tragedy Averted
Shimla, May 1: A fire broke out late Wednesday evening at a small army dispensary in the MIM Room area of Shimla’s Summerhill suburb, causing panic in the locality. Thanks to the prompt action of local residents and the fire department, a potentially major tragedy was narrowly avoided.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze was spotted early, and residents immediately alerted the fire department. Two fire tenders from the Baluganj Fire Station were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after nearly 30 minutes of effort.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the dispensary’s storeroom, which housed medical supplies, was completely gutted. Fire department officials estimate the damage at around ₹5,000, though timely intervention is believed to have saved property worth several lakhs.
An officer from the Baluganj fire station confirmed that no injuries occurred and said the exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze. Local police have also launched an inquiry into the incident.
