Shimla, April 23: A tragic accident occurred in the Chopal sub-division on Tuesday when a car traveling from Matal to Pulbahal lost control near Gallu Nala, close to Riuṇi, and plunged into a deep gorge.
The accident claimed the lives of a father and son, while three other occupants sustained serious injuries and have been referred to IGMC, Shimla for treatment. Local residents rushed to the spot upon hearing of the incident and began rescue efforts. A police team also arrived promptly, helping evacuate the injured from the gorge and transporting them to the hospital.
According to initial reports, the accident was caused by driver negligence. The car (HP 08A-5934) was being driven by 27-year-old Deepak Sharma, a resident of Shilli village, Pulbahal Post Office, Chopal Tehsil. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to tumble into the gorge. Both Deepak and his father, 57-year-old Ram Lal, died in the crash.
The other passengers — Rajesh Sharma (28) from Thanadhar, Pankaj Sharma (25) from Dhaneshwar, and Suman (51), wife of the deceased Ram Lal — were seriously injured and later referred to IGMC from the Chopal hospital.
Based on Rajesh Sharma’s statement, Chopal Police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is currently underway. The incident was confirmed by Chopal DSP Sushant Sharma.
