Shimla, April 19: In a stern message against internal corruption and drug-related crimes, Shimla Police has dismissed two constables for their direct involvement in Chitta (heroin) smuggling. The two policemen, Jugal Kishore and Sandeep Kumar, were earlier suspended and stationed at the Kaithu Police Line during the investigation. Their termination comes as part of the state’s aggressive “Mission Clean-Bharosa” campaign.

The move follows clear directives from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who has vowed zero tolerance towards government employees aiding or abetting in serious criminal activities, especially narcotics smuggling.

Web of Drug Links Among Government Staff

So far, investigations have uncovered 24 government employees across multiple departments — including police, health, banking, revenue, forest, PWD, and education — allegedly involved in drug smuggling or consumption. Their details have been shared with the Chief Secretary, with a request for immediate departmental action.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Chief Minister earlier revealed during the budget session that more than 60 government officials have been found connected with Chitta smuggling statewide.

Tightening the Noose: Asset Seizures and School Surveillance

  • The state has confiscated properties of 17 drug accused and demolished the house of a major drug mafia figure.

  • A mapping system to track drug users is being expanded to include schools and colleges, aiming to prevent early addiction.

Chilling Numbers: Thousands of Cases, Dozens of Deaths

Over the past three years, Himachal Pradesh has seen:

  • 4,780 drug-related cases

  • 38 confirmed deaths due to Chitta abuse

Despite this, the state has reduced Chitta crime by 30% since the Congress government came to power.

A War Within

This bold internal cleanup, starting with law enforcement itself, sends a powerful message — the fight against drugs in Himachal Pradesh isn’t just about arresting street peddlers. It’s about uprooting corruption from within the system and protecting future generations from falling into the trap of addiction.

The intensified crackdown is expected to gain further momentum in the coming months as the government pushes towards making Himachal a drug-free hill state.
