In a significant boost to the healthcare infrastructure of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the opening of Nephrology and Neurology departments at Hamirpur Medical College, following the already operational Cardiology department. This move aims to provide modern treatment facilities for kidney and neurological disorders within the region.
The announcement came during the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations organized by the Scheduled Caste Department of the Congress Party, where the Chief Minister unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar at the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex in Hamirpur. Alongside, CM Sukhu inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹38 crore.

While addressing the gathering, CM Sukhu highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of equality and justice continues to guide the state’s policies.
“Inspired by Baba Saheb’s life, the government is committed to making Himachal Pradesh a self-reliant and prosperous state,” he said.
He noted that despite financial constraints due to cuts in GST compensation and revenue deficit grants, the state government is taking bold steps to reform health, education, and rural economies.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries including CM’s political advisor Sunil Sharma Bittu, local MLAs, Congress leaders, DC Amarjit Singh, SP Bhagat Singh Thakur, and others who also contributed to the installation of Dr. Ambedkar’s statue.
