Mandi, March 23: Atal Medical and Research University in Himachal Pradesh has made significant strides in embracing digital transformation, with 80% of its operations now paperless. The university is also working diligently to digitize the remaining 20% of its functions in the near future, according to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Surendra Kashyap.

Dr. Kashyap highlighted the university’s commitment to leveraging Information Technology (IT) and technology ever since its inception. “From the very beginning, we have focused on utilizing technology to streamline processes. The entire system is designed to function on a modular basis,” he explained.

A key feature of this digital shift is the university’s adoption of online systems for various essential operations. The process of student registration, admission, counseling, and fee submission is now conducted exclusively through digital platforms. Even examination papers are being checked online, ensuring efficiency and reducing the use of paper in academic procedures.

“In all the departments, including accounts and establishment, around 80% of the work is being carried out through online platforms. This has not only simplified our processes but also ensured complete transparency in our operations,” said Dr. Kashyap. He further added that the university’s management is determined to digitize the remaining 20% of operations, bringing all university functions online in the near future. Work is already underway in this direction, with a focus on creating a fully integrated digital environment.

Established in 2018, Atal Medical and Research University is the first and only medical science university in Himachal Pradesh. Despite being in operation for several years, the university has yet to secure its permanent campus. Currently, the university’s functions are being carried out from the temporary premises of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College and Hospital in Nerchowk.

The search for a permanent campus is ongoing, and authorities are hopeful that land will soon be allocated for the university’s future headquarters. However, despite these challenges, Atal Medical University has continued to progress and is dedicated to providing world-class education and research facilities.

Dr. Kashyap expressed confidence that the university’s digital transformation would pave the way for even greater achievements in the future. “We are focused on providing our students with the best services, and moving towards a paperless system is a step in that direction. The use of technology helps us in managing operations more efficiently and ensuring that our students and faculty have access to the latest resources.”

The move towards a paperless environment not only aligns with the university’s modern approach but also promotes sustainability. By reducing paper usage, the university is contributing to environmental conservation while enhancing the efficiency of its administrative processes.

As Atal Medical and Research University continues to grow, its commitment to digital innovation and sustainable practices is setting a benchmark for educational institutions across the region. With plans to complete the transition to a fully digital university soon, the institution is on track to become a model of modernity in the field of medical education in Himachal Pradesh.

In the coming years, the university hopes to have its permanent campus operational, further enhancing its ability to provide high-quality medical education and research opportunities to students.
