Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressing the program
Shimla, March 23: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh a self-reliant and green energy powerhouse while addressing the ‘Samriddh Himachal 2045’ program organized at Dr. Manmohan Singh Himachal Pradesh Institute of Public Administration (HIPA). The event, a three-day brainstorming exercise, was conducted virtually from New Delhi late Saturday evening, aimed at preparing a 20-year action plan for sustainable economic development in the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the objective of this initiative is to formulate a roadmap for Himachal Pradesh’s long-term prosperity, focusing on sustainable economic growth, environmental responsibility, and green energy solutions. “Our government is determined to ensure that Himachal becomes a self-sustaining, green energy-driven state,” said Sukhu, adding that this vision is part of the larger goal of making the state a beacon of economic and environmental sustainability.
Sustainable Development and Holistic Growth
In his address, Chief Minister Sukhu outlined the state government’s strategy to achieve these ambitious goals. He stressed the importance of a holistic approach to development, one that considers the balance between economic growth and environmental preservation. “We are working on long-term strategies to strengthen the state’s economy through sustainable development. This includes boosting our energy sector, promoting tourism, and investing in education and health infrastructure,” he explained.
The Chief Minister further highlighted that the state government’s upcoming budget for the 2025-26 financial year will focus on fortifying the rural economy and expanding the energy sector, particularly in hydropower. “We want to ensure the maximum exploitation of our hydropower potential and secure more royalty from energy projects,” Sukhu said. The state’s potential for renewable energy, particularly hydropower, remains one of the key pillars of its economic growth strategy.
Additionally, the government aims to promote natural farming and expand the dairy sector, with Himachal Pradesh already being a leader in natural farming in the country. Sukhu emphasized that these efforts are all part of a broader systemic change to make the state self-reliant and sustainable.
Insight from Sam Pitroda
A significant part of the session was marked by the participation of internationally renowned thinker and entrepreneur, Sam Pitroda. Speaking virtually from the United States, Pitroda shared valuable insights on inclusive development and praised the innovative efforts of the state government. He expressed his willingness to assist the Himachal government with his vast knowledge and experience to help foster further growth in the state.
“Sam Pitroda’s suggestions on inclusive development have given us a new perspective on how to approach long-term prosperity,” said Sukhu, acknowledging the importance of Pitroda’s ideas for the state’s economic and social development.
Government’s Progress and Plans for the Future
Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena also provided an overview of the key initiatives taken by the state government over the last two years. His detailed presentation highlighted various steps taken in the fields of rural economy, energy, tourism, education, and health infrastructure. The discussion provided an opportunity for subject experts, department secretaries, and state officials to deliberate on the future course of action for the state’s sustainable growth.
The Samriddh Himachal 2045 program is a part of the state government’s larger vision to ensure that Himachal Pradesh becomes a model for sustainable development, energy production, and economic self-sufficiency. With a focus on green energy and environmentally friendly practices, the state is set to emerge as a leader in both renewable energy and responsible economic growth.
The Chief Minister concluded by emphasizing that this initiative marks the beginning of a new chapter for Himachal Pradesh, one that will ensure long-term prosperity for its people while preserving its natural resources for future generations.
