Solan, March 1 — A man died after he came into contact with an electric wire that had fallen on a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus he was travelling on, while the bus was en route from Haridwar to Shimla, in the Parwanoo area of district Solan this morning. The gruesome accident took place after a major hailstorm hit the area, pulling wires onto the road, resulting in a deadly electric shock.

The bus in question had reached close to Parwanoo when strong winds blew all the electric wires down. The wires fell and it started sparking up a lot. The bus driver instantly responded by bringing the vehicle to a halt and ordering all passengers to remain in their seats for their protection. The conductor also advised everyone to stay put & warned them against leaving the bus as the fallen wires were dangerous.

Despite the warnings, however, one passenger — who was coming from Ambala — chose to ignore the advice of the driver and conductor. He got off the bus and walked onto the road, oblivious to the danger. In an instant, he touched the fallen wire and was electrocuted, dying immediately from the shock.

The incident sent the other passengers on the bus into a panic. “The driver and conductor took prompt steps to inform the police. Teams from the police and the electricity department reached the site within minutes. The State Electricity Department disconnected the power supply immediately to avoid any further dangers and removed the drooped wires to make the area safe.

The authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. Police are investigating if there was a fault in the power lines or if the incident was weather-related. Meanwhile, the electricity department is also carrying out an assessment to ensure that there are no other possible threats in the area.

Following the tragedy, local officials made an urgent appeal for the public to take precautions in inclement weather, especially in the presence of lightning or hail storms. In particular, the administration has cautioned to avoid any contact with fallen electric wires, which could still carry a deadly electric charge.

This dreadful death is a sobering reminder of the dangers severe weather brings, when it brings it down infrastructure like power lines. The accidents are also warning for the citizens throughout the region to keep a watchful eye on the weather conditions, especially during the winter months, when storms are more likely to lead to these kinds of accidents.

Due to the ongoing investigation, the family of the deceased passenger has been notified, and assistance is being provided to them during this difficult time.
