Mandi, July 14:
Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has once again disrupted traffic on the Chandigarh–Manali National Highway. The highway has been blocked near Char Mile in Mandi district, the same stretch that was recently cleared after a 28-hour closure due to a previous landslide.
Following intense rainfall last night, fresh debris and boulders tumbled down from the hillside early this morning, further worsening the situation. Continuous rockfall and ongoing rain are hampering restoration efforts, making the terrain unsafe for workers.
Though earth-moving equipment has been deployed, operations have had to be paused due to safety concerns. Authorities have stated that until the rain subsides and the rockfall stops, reopening the highway will remain too dangerous.
Travelers have been advised to use alternative routes for the time being, as there is no clear timeline yet for when the highway will be reopened.
