Corruption Allegations Lead to Widespread Investigations and Arrests
Shimla, December 28: The CBI’s Chandigarh team is intensifying its efforts to capture a senior officer from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Shimla, who has been on the run for the past four days amid serious corruption and bribery charges. Despite exhaustive searches, the CBI has yet to locate the accused, whose last known location was in Shimla. Investigators are now focusing on Shimla and its surrounding areas, hoping to track down the officer.
The case revolves around allegations that the ED officer demanded a bribe of Rs 2.5 crore from the chairman of an educational institution in Sirmaur district. Sources reveal that the officer had called the chairman to the ED office, where the bribe was allegedly requested in exchange for favorable action in a pending case. The chairman reported the matter to the CBI, and another individual under investigation by the ED also complained about the bribe demand. Based on these complaints, the CBI launched an investigation and set up a trap.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the CBI has already arrested the brother of the accused officer, who holds a senior position in a bank in Delhi. It is believed that the brother played a key role in facilitating the bribe deal. The scope of the investigation has expanded beyond Shimla, with raids now taking place in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Sources suggest that other ED officers may also be under CBI scrutiny in connection with the case.
On Wednesday, the CBI raided several locations in Shimla. However, the accused officer appears to have been tipped off about the operation and managed to flee before the authorities could apprehend him. The raids are still ongoing across various locations in Himachal Pradesh, as the CBI intensifies its search for the fugitive officer.
