Havildar Naval Kishore: A Brave Heart from Mandi Who Fell in Siachen Glacier
Shimla, 03 November – The Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh is in mourning following the tragic death of Havildar Naval Kishore, a young soldier from Jalaun village, who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the Siachen Glacier. Aged 28, Kishore’s life was cut short due to harsh environmental factors, including oxygen deprivation exacerbated by climate change, which are common challenges faced by soldiers in such high-altitude locations. His sacrifice has left the entire region in deep sorrow, with his family, friends, and the local community grieving the loss of a dedicated son, husband, and soldier.
A Soldier’s Journey: From Jalaun Village to the Frontlines
Havildar Naval Kishore joined the Indian Army in 2017 as part of the Jack Rifles, a distinguished regiment. His courage and commitment to serving the nation led him to the challenging terrain of Siachen Glacier, a high-altitude battlefield known for its extreme conditions. Despite the difficulties, Kishore remained steadfast in his duties.
Kishore married Shweta Devi, a constable posted at Tapri police station in Kinnaur, just one and a half years ago. His last communication with his family occurred on Saturday, when he spoke to his parents, expressing his intentions to return home in March. Tragically, that was the last conversation they had before news of his martyrdom reached them.
A Heartbreaking Loss: News of Martyrdom
The news of Havildar Kishore’s death reached his father, Bhagat Ram, on Sunday night. The call, made by an army officer from his unit, conveyed the sad news that Kishore had passed away while on duty in Siachen Glacier. According to reports, his death was caused by oxygen shortage, which is a significant danger in the glacier’s hostile environment.
Having joined the Army to serve his country, Kishore had been on a four-day leave two and a half months ago before returning to his duty in Siachen. His younger brother, Sunil, is also a member of the army and currently serves in the 8 Jack Rifles, continuing the family’s legacy of service to the nation.
