Mandi: Accused arrested from Delhi for cheating people of Rs 17 lakh by posing as a foreign woman

Mandi, August 29: Cyber Crime Police Station, Middle Zone Mandi of State CID, Himachal Pradesh has got a big success in a case of online fraud of Rs 17 lakh. Police has arrested the accused from Mandi. Investigation into the case has revealed that the complainant had befriended a foreign woman on Facebook. The woman introduced herself as coming to India and claimed that she was caught in the Customs Office of Delhi due to foreign currency.
The woman also told the complainant that he would have to pay money for payment of custom charges. After this, the complainant was duped of Rs. 17 lakh in the name of various types of charges. During the investigation, it was revealed that the fraudster was not a woman but a person of Nigerian origin, who had created a fake Facebook ID in the name of a girl and was cheating people.
A team of Cyber Crime Police Station Mandi headed by Inspector Sanjeev Kumar, which included Head Constable Vikesh Sharma, Constable Harish Nayak, Constable Ashish Pathania and driver Pushp Raj was sent to Delhi. The team raided Delhi on 28 August 2024 and arrested the accused. The accused was produced in Bilaspur Court, from where he was sent on 3-day police remand. Now further investigation and interrogation is going on.
