Shimla, August 26: With an aim to promote the use of Green Card and encourage more people to use government buses, Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation (HRTC) has made it more accessible by allowing people to buy Green Card at grocery stores for Rs 100. Earlier, passengers could get Green Card from HRTC depot offices for just Rs 50, which had a validity of two years. However, now the price has been increased to Rs 100 and the validity of the card has been reduced to one year.

The initiative comes following government directives to promote the Green Card scheme and attract more passengers to use HRTC buses. By making Green Cards available at general stores, the government aims to eliminate the inconvenience of visiting depot offices to obtain them. The Green Card offers a 25% discount on fares to passengers travelling within a radius of 50 km per day. This decision is expected to ease the process of obtaining Green Card, making it more accessible to the general public.

Grocery shopkeepers and authorised persons can now act as agents of HRTC, who will sell Green Cards with a commission of Rs 5 per card. Additionally, bus conductors have also been authorised to sell Green Cards and will get the same commission.

There is no limit on the number of Green Cards that can be purchased from HRTC offices for resale by shopkeepers or individuals. All depots have been directed by the Managing Director’s office to take effective steps to implement this new system.
