Una, August 13: Eight members of a family who died due to flash flood in Jejo Ravine under Hoshiarpur district of Punjab were taken to the crematorium on Tuesday and immersed in the five elements. During this, the deceased included Surjeet Kumar, resident of Dehlan, his wife Paramjeet Kaur, son Gagan, his brother Swaroop Chand’s wife Balwinder Kaur, son Nitin, who was missing in the same accident, while Ankita, Bhavna and their younger brother Harmeet, residents of Bhatoli, were cremated.

About five bodies of their family members including two sisters living in Dehlan were taken to the crematorium together. The sons of both lit the funeral pyres of their relatives. On the other hand, a pyre was made together for the last farewell of three siblings living in Bhatoli, who were immersed in the five elements by their father amid a very sad atmosphere. Earlier, the bodies of all the deceased were taken out of their homes amid a very sad atmosphere. Three sisters Paramjit Kaur, Balwinder Kaur and Surendra Kaur were travelling in a car to attend a wedding ceremony in Punjab’s Mahilpur with their families.

During this time, their car was swept away by a flash flood on the way. During the accident, only Paramjit’s son Deepak could be saved. While the bodies of 9 people have been recovered, Surendra Kaur and Palwinder Kaur’s husband Swaroop Chand are still reported missing. Hundreds of people participated in the last rites.

On this occasion, local MLA Satpal Singh Satti and former MLA Satpal Singh Raizada also specially arrived for the last rites. Former MLA Satpal Singh Raizada said that he stayed with these victim families for two days and even took care of the work of getting the post-mortem done in Hoshiarpur and keeping the bodies safe here. He said that he is standing not only for the victim families but for all of us in this hour of great sorrow. He said that the state government is standing like a rock with these families. Every possible help will be provided to them.

On the other hand, local MLA Satpal Singh Satti said that the pain of these victim families is unbearable. In this accident, there are three families whose only one member is left. He said that the entire society is standing with the victim families and the government is standing with them and he will always be available to help these victim families in every way.
