Dharamshala, July 31: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan has publicly criticized the recent decision to rename the Dharamshala bus stand after late GS Bali, questioning the intent behind the move and saying it will not lead to any improvement in facilities.

Mahajan expressed his disagreement during a statement on Tuesday, in which he suggested that he may have been prompted to make such an announcement because of the Congress party’s dwindling influence in Kangra district. “What was the need to name the Dharamshala bus stand after Bali?” Mahajan asked. “It would have been better if the bus stand was named as before. Adding a name does not change the facility.”

Apart from his remarks on renaming the bus stand, Mahajan expressed his concern about possible changes to the Himcare scheme, a healthcare initiative launched by former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur. Mahajan emphasised the significant benefits of the scheme, which has allowed residents of Himachal Pradesh to receive essential healthcare services at home.

Mahajan said, “The Himcare scheme should continue the way it was running. The government of happiness in Himachal Pradesh is not able to see the happiness of the people. The Himcare scheme was started by former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, due to which every person in Himachal Pradesh was getting health facilities at home and was getting full benefit of this facility.”

Mahajan accused the current Congress government of changing the Himcare scheme because it was launched by his political rival Jai Ram Thakur. He argued that there was no logical basis to change the scheme. “The current Congress government tried to change the scheme just because it was launched by former chief minister Jai Ram Thakur and this government has no logic behind it,” Mahajan said.

Highlighting the positive impact of the Himcare scheme, Mahajan said residents of every village have received unprecedented benefits, with government records available to support these claims. He urged the Congress government to prioritise people’s welfare over political motivations and sustain successful public initiatives, regardless of their origin.
