Shimla, July 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in several areas of Himachal Pradesh, raising concerns about possible flooding. The capital Shimla is receiving continuous rains, which is expected to worsen the weather conditions.

According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, a yellow alert for heavy rains is in effect from July 24 to 27, with rain likely to continue in various parts of the state till July 29. These forecasts have led to warnings and precautionary measures to prevent damage from possible floods.

The Hydromet Division of IMD in New Delhi has also issued a National Emergency Flood Guidance Bulletin, stating that there is a risk of light to moderate flooding in specific catchment areas and adjoining areas of Kangra, Chamba and Shimla districts during the next 24 hours.

Heavy rains have already been recorded, increasing the risk of floods. Last night, Kangra received 151.8 mm of rain, Dharamsala 136.6 mm and Palampur 112.4 mm. Other affected areas were Nagrota Surian 99.6 mm, Dhaula Kuan 82.5 mm, Jogindernagar 52.0 mm, Guler 46.4 mm and Sundernagar 44.7 mm.

Residents of the affected districts are advised to remain vigilant and follow safety instructions from local authorities. Emergency services are on high alert and prepared to respond to any incident caused by adverse weather.
