Shimla, July 17: Shimla Police has succeeded in catching the Chitta smuggler who escaped by cutting the grill of the lockup of Dhali Police Station in Capital Shimla of Himachal Pradesh. Accused Akash Mathur (23) has been caught from Uttar Pradesh. Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi has confirmed the arrest of the accused late on Wednesday night. Now the police is bringing him from UP to Shimla. Within 72 hours of absconding, the smuggler has again come under the clutches of the police. SP Sanjeev Gandhi said that the accused is being brought to Shimla and his remand will be obtained after presenting him in the court.

Shimla Police worked day and night to catch the accused. Raids were being conducted at various places in search of him. Many police teams were engaged in his search. The police had full suspicion that the accused had gone out of the border of Himachal. Therefore, Shimla Police was also in touch with the police of other states.

According to the information, the accused was contacting his acquaintances from other people’s mobile phones. This gave the police input about him and a trap was laid to nab him. The accused was nabbed in Allahabad on Wednesday.

Many cases of theft and burglary are registered against the accused, he has absconded earlier too –

The accused is a very clever and professional thief. About 20 cases of theft and burglary are registered against him in other states. The shocking thing is that the accused had escaped from police custody earlier too. 23-year-old accused Akash Mathur is a native of Delhi. Last Sunday night, he escaped from the lockup of Dhali police station and the police posted there did not even get a clue about him. He escaped by cutting the grill of the lockup window. Preparations are on to take action against the police personnel who were negligent in this case.

The smuggler had escaped by breaking the grill of the lockup-

The accused Akash Mathur was arrested by the Dhali police on July 9 in Bhattakufar with the narcotic substance chitta (heroin). He was arrested with 14.61 grams of chitta in his possession. A case was registered against him under the NDPS Act. After this, the accused was produced in the court and he was on police remand. He was kept in custody at Dhali police station. Last Sunday night, the accused escaped by breaking the grill of the window in the police station. The police on duty at the police station got a clue of this at around 4:30 am in the morning.

According to the FIR registered in this case, after the accused escaped, the grill of the window in the gallery of the lockup was found broken and the rope made of blanket tied to the grill was hanging outside the grill. Accused Akash Mathur had used the rope made by cutting the blanket from the grill of the window in the gallery of the police station’s lockup to escape.
