Shimla Police’s SIT has once again questioned former independent MLA and Hamirpur BJP candidate Ashish Sharma in connection with the alleged horse-trading case in Himachal Pradesh’s Rajya Sabha elections and conspiracy to topple the Himachal Pradesh government.

Shimla, July 12: Shimla Police’s SIT has once again questioned former independent MLA and Hamirpur BJP candidate Ashish Sharma in connection with the alleged horse-trading case in Himachal Pradesh’s Rajya Sabha elections and conspiracy to topple the Himachal Pradesh government.

Ashish Sharma appeared at Boileauganj Police Station in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla at around 2 pm on Thursday. Ashish Sharma was questioned intensively till around 6 pm.

Ashish Sharma has faced questions from the SIT at the same Boileauganj Police Station before this as well. But this is the first time that the SIT team has questioned Ashish Sharma for hours. Ashish Sharma contested the Hamirpur Assembly by-election on a BJP ticket. Voting took place in the by-election just yesterday and the result of the by-election will be declared on July 13. In such a situation, the SIT’s questioning of Ashish Sharma two days before the result has heated up the political atmosphere.

The SIT of Shimla Police, which is investigating the case related to the Rajya Sabha elections of Himachal Pradesh, has also summoned former independent MLA Chaitanya Sharma for questioning on Friday. Apart from this, the SIT of Shimla Police will also question four rebel and former Congress MLAs Rajinder Rana from Sujanpur, Ravi Thakur from Lahaul Spiti and Davinder Kumar Bhutto from Kutlehar, besides former Haryana CM’s campaign advisor Tarun Bhandari, former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s retired IAS officer father Rakesh Sharma.

The SIT of Shimla Police has already questioned Tarun Bhandari, Chaitanya Sharma, Rakesh Sharma and Ashish Sharma, but many others are yet to be questioned, for which they have been summoned to Boileauganj police station in the coming days. The people whose names are coming up in the expenses incurred in the stay of former independent MLAs in hotels in Uttarakhand and their air travels, have also been issued notices by the SIT of Shimla Police to join the investigation.

Let us tell you that former MLA and BJP candidate from Hamirpur Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father Rakesh Sharma have been accused of horse-trading in the Rajya Sabha elections. Shimla police has collected information about the expenses and payments made for meetings with BJP leaders including Ganga bath in Uttarakhand. It is being told that about Rs 30 lakh has been spent. Shimla police has found many important evidences in the investigation of the travel agency.

It is noteworthy that during the budget session of Himachal Vidhan Sabha on February 27, the matter of rebellion of six former MLAs of the ruling Congress came to light in the election of Rajya Sabha MP. The then six MLAs of Congress and three former independent MLAs voted in favor of the BJP candidate. The result was that despite the absolute majority, Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost the election and BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan got elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Congress MLAs Sanjay Awasthi and Bhuvneshwar Gaur had lodged a case on March 10 at Boileauganj police station against former MLA Ashish Sharma and former MLA Chaitanya Sharma’s father, retired IAS officer Rakesh Sharma under IPC sections 171E and 171C, 120B and sections 7 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Both of them are accused of conspiring to topple the Himachal Pradesh government. After cross voting in the Rajya Sabha elections, 6 rebel Congress MLAs and 3 former independent MLAs stayed out of Himachal Pradesh for about a month.
