Today Himachal Weather: Himachal or we can also say Devbhumi Himachal is one of Place in the northern part of India. Which is known for its ever-changing weather conditions.  In the past 24 hours, Rain and thunderstorms observed at many places over the state.  Within this period, The area of lower Hills like districts Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and the lower part of Mandi, Solan, and Sirmour experienced rainfall in a few places. but tomorrow there is a chance of dry weather in these areas. In the area of the Middle Hills like some parts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi rainfall is observed in many places.  Tomorrow this area will experience rainfall in isolated places. Whereas, in areas of High Hills like Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, and some parts of Chamba and Kullu rainfall was observed at many places. There has been no large change in minimum temperatures and no large change in maximum temperatures during the last 24 hours. The average minimum temperatures and maximum temperatures were normal. Today the lowest temperature was recorded at Keylong = 2.9 degrees Celsius which is lower than yesterday’s temperature. This shows the effect of western cyclonic disturbance in Himachal Pradesh. and yesterday, the Maximum temperature was recorded at Dhaulakuan=36.2 Degrees Celsius. A fresh Western Disturbance will likely affect northwest India from yesterday. A western cyclonic disturbance refers to a weather phenomenon characterized by the movement of a cyclonic circulation system from west to east. This disturbance typically originated from the Mediterranean Sea or northern Africa and traveled eastward, affecting regions such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. this disturbance often brings significant changes in weather patterns, leading to precipitation, strong winds, and temperature fluctuation. In some cases, these disturbances can lead to heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas.  India Meteorological agencies closely monitor western cyclonic disturbances and issue warnings and advisories to help mitigate their impact on the communities and infrastructure. Additionally, forecasting models are used to trace the movement and intensity of these disturbances, providing valuable information for disaster preparedness and response efforts. This disturbance is observed by residents of Himachal Pradesh. Data also shows a decrease in temperature due to this disturbance.

 According to the Ministry of Earth Science and Meteorological Department of India. Today the chief amount of snowfall is not traced at any places but due to changing weather patterns people will observe snowfall in isolated places of higher hills like Kinnaur, Lahaul, and Spiti, and some parts of Chamba, etc. but the chief amount of Rainfall was observed at many places like Ghagar ( 19.0mm ), Sundernagar ( 16.6mm ), Bharmour ( 13.0mm ), Berthin ( 8.2mm ), Bilaspur ( 8.0mm ), jot ( 7.6mm ), Dalhosie 9 6.0mm 0, And Kasauli ( 4.0mm ). There is the possibility of an increase in this data due to changing weather patterns.

Lahaul Spiti Weather and Road Status Update:-

According to the weather and road status provided by Lahaul & Spiti police on 19 April until 0900 hrs. There are several observations and updates on the weather conditions and road statuses across various districts of Himachal Pradesh. Areas of Keylong reported cloudy weather, but the road is open for travelers and visitors. However, they are advised to exercise caution due to potentially reduced visibility due to cloudy weather in this area which leads to diffused sunlight and cooler temperatures. In the area of Kaza and Sumdo, clear weather is reported, and the road is open, providing smooth passage for commuters or residents. The area of Udaipur reported partially cloudy weather, which causes diffused sunlight and a decrease in temperatures in this area of Lahaul & Spiti, and the road remains open, facilitating transportation. In Tindi residents and visitors enjoy clear skies, and the road remains open, facilitating transportation. In the area of Sissu cloudy weather is reported which led to diffused sunlight and a decrease in temperature in this area, but the road is still accessible for commuters, ensuring connectivity. In area of North Portal, the weather remains cloudy which leads to diffused sunlight and reduce in temperature in this area it also reduces the visibility of travelers while traveling, but the road is open, allowing travelers to proceed. But while traveling travelers are advised to exercise caution. Similar to the area of North Portal, the weather of South Portal is recorded as cloudy which also led to diffused sunlight and decreased visibility in this area. Travelers are also advised to stay cautious while traveling through this area. Because roads are open for smooth traveling, the area of SCP Darcha is reported clear; however, there’s closure due to avalanches. An avalanche is a sudden and rapid flow of snow down a slope, often triggered by various factors such as snowpack instability, weather conditions, or human activity. When a mass of snow on a mountainside becomes unstable, it can break loose and cascade downhill, gaining momentum and gathering more snow and debris as it moves. Avalanches can vary in size, speed, and disruption force, ranging from small sliders to large, powerful torrents capable of destroying trees, and buildings, and even causing loss of life. Avalanche forecasting, monitoring, and mitigation efforts aim to reduce the risk to people and infrastructure in avalanche-prone areas. Techniques such as avalanche control measures and public education about avalanche safety help minimize the impact of avalanches on human activities in mountainous regions. Travelers are advised to avoid this route until it’s cleared for safety reasons.

Unfortunately, SCP Darcha to Shinkula road is closed due to avalanches, highlighting the potential dangers of traveling in mountainous areas during adverse weather conditions. Anuradha Rana, the chairman of JIP Lahaul Spiti says that she discussed with RM, HRTC, PWD, and SDO for Mayad Valley road services. The Pwd department provides services to the extent of good road conditions. but beyond this, the road services will be resumed within 1-2 days. The Weather in the Mayad Valley has been observed to be quite variable over the past few days. With the challenging weather conditions, residents as well as visitors are advised to stay aware of weather conditions to ensure safety and preparedness. The temperature of this valley varies from 10-20 Degree Celsius during day time. However, at night temperature starts dropping to around 5-10 Degrees Celsius. There has been occasional light rain in the valley, with total precipitation measuring around 5-10 mm over the past week. The chances of rainfall are expected to decrease in the coming days. Humidity levels have been moderate, ranging between 50% TO 70%. This level of humanity will be acceptable by all types of individuals or we can say comfortable for all. and also the wind speed in the Mayad Valley has been relatively calm with gusts reaching up to 10-15 km/h. visibility in this valley has been clear to moderate and this visibility is affected by changing weather patterns the sun rises around 6:00 AM AND sets down at 6:30 PM. This changes during summer. If you are planning to trek or hike in the surrounding mountains, conditions have been mostly dry. As discussed with the PWD, the road conditions in Mayad Valley are mostly in good shape. Any areas needing repair will be addressed promptly to ensure smooth travel. In this valley the water levels in the rivers and streams are stable, but caution is advised when crossing or engaging in water-related activities due to the current and potential changes in weather. Farmers of the valley got favorable weather to grow their crops and hopefully got good harvests. With the changing weather, wildlife activity in the valley has increased. Tourists and locals are advised to respect and maintain a safe distance from wildlife. Due to fluctuating temperatures and occasional rain, there is the possibility of cold and flu-like illnesses.

In areas of Satluj, Beas, and Ranjit Nagar, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places of this areas is likely to occur. And there is the possibility of light precipitation accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty wind ( 40-50 km) at isolated places in districts of  Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Kullu, Una, and Bilaspur. Also, there is the possibility of hail at isolated places in the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla. And light precipitation at isolated places in the districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a chance of precipitation at isolated places in the remaining area.

Today Himachal Weather: Current Weather across Major Cities of Himachal Pradesh:-

  • Shimla: 22.4 degrees Celsius with 57% Chance of precipitation.
  • Sundernagar: 28 Degree Celsius with a 40% chance of precipitation.
  • Kangra: 31.6 degrees Celsius with a 1% chance of precipitation.
  • Chamba: 17.3 Degree Celsius with a 97% chance of precipitation.
  • Kufri: 16.3 degrees Celsius with a 42% chance of precipitation.
  • Keylong:7.2 degrees Celsius with a 99% chance of precipitation.
