Varisu is originally a Tamil movie that was released on January 11, 2023, amidst the Pongal celebrations. This movie has been dubbed in Telugu and Hindi. The story is basically set in an upper middle class family and captures the nuances of the same. It is set to hit the OTT platforms by February 10, 2023.

Plot:

The story begins with the youngest son Vijay Rajendran (played by Thalapathy Vijay) being thrown out of the house by his father Rajendran Palanisamy, an influential business tycoon when he expressed his desires of not taking the responsibility of his business, but, to start his food delivery supply startup, just like a prodigal son does. Fast forward to seven years and the father, Rajendran Palanisamy is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at an advanced stage, mostly a terminal illness by now. With the clock ticking, he has to make a decision amongst his other two sons, Jai and Ajay, who would be the rightful successor to take over his dynasty.

The best way to break the news about his ticking time and the successor was to throw a grandeur 65th birthday party. Sudha, the mother of the children, who still considers Vijay as her son invites him over, with the hopes of setting the record straight between her youngest son and her sick husband. Vijay’s visit, however, has quite alot of news in store for him, all of which are more of shocking revelations, like, Jai having a secret affair with another woman while his wife is around and being completely negligent towards his responsibilities, including taking care of his daughter, Ria, who is in her teens and, Ajay being heavily debted to a financer Mukesh. Not being able to repay, he comes up with a solution that involves selling the secrets of the company to his father’s arch nemesis, Jayprakash. Vijay also finds out about the constant dispute between his two brothers and the fact that they’re not in talking terms with each other.

Vijay’s paths crosses with Arthi’s younger sister, Divya (starring Rasmika Mandanna) who has had a crush on Vijay since childhood. After a few interactions, the two are head over heels in love with each other. A dramatic series of events take place when Jayprakash and Mukesh do an expose on the two brothers, Jai and Ajay. This results in the company losing a lucrative deal and Arthi filing for divorce. Rajendran reaches out to Vijay with the offer of taking up the family business after he learns the bitter truth. Vijay, who was reluctant initially, finally gives in when he learns about his sick father.

Furious upon learning who was chosen as the successor, Jai and Ajay leave home and join hands with Jayprakash and Mukesh for taking down Vijay. This, however, does not take turn for good. Ria is being sold off to traffickers. Vijay not only managed to overcome those setbacks, but also rescued Ria from the clutches of the human traffickers. This changes Jai’s attitude towards Vijay and together they hatch a plan on convincing Ajay to refrain from sharing his shares to the rival. Jai apologises to Arthi and the family for his misdeeds and the ending is a happily ever after.

Varisu vs Thunivu:

There has been quite a competition between Thalapathy Vijay starrer movie Varisu and Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu. It has been reported that such a cross has happened after 8 years. This leaves the followers of both the stars eager enough to see who crosses the finish line first. The weekend was however interesting. Interesting, well, it was a festive week and people have been purchasing tickets for the movies. While Thalapathy Vijay was leading the sales on a Saturday, Sunday seemed auspicious for Ajith Kumar. The sales for Varisu was reported to be at 265 crores while that of Thunivu reported a complete collection of 175.25 crores. The collection isn’t remarkable, but, indeed worth the talk. The aftermath of this clash is something one might probably be wondering. Well the fans vandalised public property as a result of the clash.
