Ukraine’s largest dam Kakhovka was destroyed on Tuesday amid the war with Russia. According to the Reuters report, the water of the dam reached the battlefield. Due to the fear of flood, nearby villages are being evacuated. Kharsone area has also been put on alert. According to the Russian news agency, there is a danger of flood in 80 villages. The next 5 hours are said to be very important for these villages.

The Kakhovka Dam on the Dnieper River in northern Ukraine is in Russian-occupied territory. The Russian army has spoken of its destruction in the attack of Ukraine. Here, military officials of Ukraine’s Northern Command said on Tuesday that the dam was attacked by Russia. President Voldomir Zelensky has also called an emergency meeting in view of the apprehension of devastation due to the breaking of the dam.

The Kakhovka Dam on the Dnieper River is 30 meters tall and covers an area of 3.2 km. It was built in 1956 during the Soviet regime. Water is supplied to the Crimea and Zaporizhia Nuclear Plant from this dam itself. Volodymyr Kovalenko, the mayor of Nova Kakhovka, has said that the water level in the area is rising very fast. Zoos, theatres, cafes and playgrounds have been submerged in water. Work is being done to evacuate people from there.

At the same time, the dam for the destruction of which Russia and Ukraine are accusing each other was also destroyed in 1941. On 29 August 1941, Luzovsky, the spokesman for the Soviet Union, made a statement to the media. He told that the dam built on the Knieper river in Zaporizhia has been destroyed. So that he does not fall into the hands of Nazi bandits. By destroying the dam, the USSR had also tried to stop the German army from moving forward. The dam was built by the Soviet Union under its first Five Year Plan. It took 8 years to build. Due to this, the supply of water was completed on both sides of the river Nipper.
