The transfer policy for the employees already exists in the state and a strong political will is needed to implement it properly. Education Minister Rohit Thakur said this in the House on Tuesday in response to the discussion on the proposal brought by MLA Sanjay Ratan under Rule-130. He said that if the working of the education department is to be improved, then both the ruling party and the opposition have to agree so that by getting rid of the problem of transfers, the focus can be on the quality of education.
The Education Minister said that there should be no politics in the appointments of teachers and appointments should be made only on the basis of merit. He said that the government would focus on quality education along with promotion of qualified teachers. Rohit Thakur justified the decision of the previous BJP government to close the educational institutions opened in the election year. He said that these institutions were closed only on the basis of fixed criteria and not on political grounds.

The Education Minister said that while there is one teacher for every 30 children in the country, there is one teacher appointed for every 12 children in Himachal. He said that the teachers of the schools which are getting good results will be encouraged.

Earlier, MLA Sanjay Ratna said that teachers should be given awards on the basis of merit and not on the basis of getting rooms made in schools and chamchagiri of politicians. No other work should be taken from the teachers.
