The results of the assembly elections in Karnataka came on 13 May. The Congress won a landslide victory in the elections and ousted the BJP from power. Congress did not declare the face of the CM before the elections. In such a situation, after the election, former CM Siddaramaiah and Congress State President DK Shivakumar had staked claim for the post of CM. After this, the high command called both the leaders to Delhi. Even after four days of brainstorming and several rounds of talks, no consensus could be reached on the name.

The period of speculations regarding the CM of Karnataka, which has been going on for four days, is over now. Siddaramaiah will be the new Chief Minister of Karnataka. He can take oath as CM tomorrow. At the same time, DK Shivakumar, the second contender for the post of CM, has been offered the post of Deputy CM along with important ministries. However, they are not ready on this. On the other hand, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar have met Rahul Gandhi separately.

At the same time, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has been called in Bengaluru today (May 18) at 7 pm.

Oath taking ceremony will be held on May 20
According to sources, the swearing-in ceremony will take place in Bengaluru on May 20. Central observers of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) have been asked to reach Bengaluru to organize the CLP meeting.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress’ Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala had said that the next chief minister of Karnataka would be decided today or tomorrow and a new cabinet would be formed within 72 hours.

day-long meetings
Earlier, Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar met Surjewala at his residence and Shivakumar also held discussions with party leaders and supporters at the residence of his brother and party MP DK Suresh. Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and party in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Surjewala and party leader MB Patil arrived at the residence of party national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday evening.

On reaching Venugopal’s residence, Shivakumar had said that there is nothing to say… We have left it to the high command… The high command will call. I’m going to rest. When asked about the meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Shivakumar had earlier said, “Nothing, no discussion. Just greetings…”

Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar had also met former MP Rahul Gandhi in Delhi regarding the name of CM. Describing Rahul Gandhi as a “people’s leader”, the Congress tweeted that after the landslide victory in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi met DK Shivakumar ji and Siddaramaiah ji.

Agreed on what conditions, not disclosed
According to sources, Shivakumar was offered the post of Deputy CM with six important portfolios. The second proposal was for the sharing of power. Under this, there was a proposal to make Siddaramaiah the CM for the first two years and Shivakumar for the next three years. Shivakumar had said that he should be given a chance first. However, on what conditions he has agreed to become deputy CM, it has not been disclosed yet.

Round of meetings continued throughout the day at the residence of Rahul and Kharge
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Siddaramaiah met Rahul Gandhi. Shivkumar reached shortly after they left. Sources claim that during this time Shivkumar was made to talk to Sonia Gandhi on the phone. An attempt was made to assure that his sacrifice would not be allowed to go in vain. But, Shivakumar was not ready for anything less than the post of CM.
A day earlier, both the leaders had also met Kharge separately. The three central observers also met Kharge at his residence on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah supporters were celebrating
Amid rounds of meetings in Delhi, Siddaramaiah supporters in Bangalore started celebrating ahead of the verdict. The supporters had full faith in his becoming the CM. At the same time, Shivakumar’s supporters were also standing outside 10 Janpath in Delhi carrying placards for their leader.

BJP sarcasm, said- lack of unity in Congress
At the same time, even after several days, the BJP took a jibe at the Congress party for not being able to elect the Chief Minister. Taking a jibe at the Congress party over the delay in deciding the Chief Minister of Karnataka, former CM Basavaraj Bommai had said that it showed the “lack of unity” in the party despite getting an absolute majority.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the former CM said that the people of Karnataka have voted for the Congress party, so it should work for the development of the state. At the same time, Bommai had said that the delay in deciding the Chief Minister despite getting absolute majority shows the lack of unity in the party. The Congress party should stop doing politics, choose a new chief minister and form a government to serve the people. Bommai said it was an internal matter of the Congress party and he would not like to talk about it further.
