Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 12: Devotees and tourists visiting the historical Sankatmochan Temple in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, will no longer have to face traffic jams. Vehicle parking has been prepared in the temple premises at a cost of Rs 4 crore. This parking has the capacity to park 200 vehicles. This vehicle parking built under the Smart City Mission was inaugurated by Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Tuesday.

On this occasion, Vikramaditya Singh said that the long standing demand of the people of Kachchi Ghati Ward and Sankat Mochan Mandir area has been fulfilled. He said that in view of the high traffic of tourists and devotees in Sankat Mochan Temple, there was a dire need of a grand vehicle parking, hence this parking has been constructed under the Smart City Mission. He said that former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had laid the foundation stone for the construction of this vehicle parking in 2013, but due to the long time taken to complete forest clearance and other formalities, there has been some delay in completing the construction work. This vehicle parking will have the capacity to park 200 vehicles. This will provide vehicle parking facilities to tourists as well as local people.

He said that a big community hall will also be constructed along with the Sankat Mochan Temple. Along with arranging Bhandara etc., it can also be used for other purposes. He said that for the convenience of the local people and tourists, work will be done to resolve the crisis and build a circular road through the barhai village and widen the old road. For this, instructions have been given to the Public Works Department to complete all the formalities.

He said that development is the need of the present but it is the responsibility of all of us to maintain the beauty of Shimla so that the tourist traffic in Shimla can be increased. He said that out of all the wards of Shimla Municipal Corporation, four wards fall in Shimla Rural Assembly constituency. For the development of these four wards, he had earlier announced to give Rs 6 lakh each, which he announced to increase to Rs 10 lakh each.

He said that in order to ensure that Shimla city gets adequate drinking water, in the first phase the construction work of Lift Drinking Water Scheme being constructed at a cost of Rs. 1200 crore from Sunni situated Shakrodi is going on. In the second phase, to ensure adequate drinking water in Shimla city as well as in the areas adjacent to the city, a lift drinking water scheme will be made from Koldam on which Rs 800 crore will be spent, all the formalities have been completed.
