Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has held the state government and Shimla Municipal Corporation responsible for the ongoing drinking water crisis in the capital Shimla.

Jairam Thakur said in Shimla that the leaders who came out on the streets carrying buckets due to non-availability of water during the previous BJP government’s tenure are missing and people are yearning for drop by drop of water.

He said that the previous BJP government had solved the drinking water crisis in Shimla by completing the Chaba drinking water scheme in record time. The Leader of the Opposition said that non-supply of water in the capital is a matter of concern even during the rainy season.

He said that when there is an outcry for water in the capital itself, then the situation in other places can be automatically guessed.Jairam Thakur said that the drinking water supply system was strengthened during the previous government so that there would be no drinking water crisis in any situation. But the Congress government is not able to run this system made earlier smoothly. He said that many cases of jaundice have been registered in the capital Shimla which are more than normal.

In such a situation, there is a danger of spreading jaundice in the city. He demanded the government to take immediate steps to prevent it and said that there should be an immediate test of the water supply across the state.
