40 Room House Burnt To Ashes In Rohru Due To Massive Fire
Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 29:Â A four-storey house was burnt to ashes on Thursday evening in village Breshtu of Gram Panchayat Sharontha of Tikkar area of Rohru sub-division of Upper Shimla. The four-storey house made of wood had 40 rooms and seven families were living there. There was no loss of life due to this fire incident but many families have been rendered homeless. The affected families are left with nothing except the clothes they wear. Immediate relief has been provided to the affected people by the local administration. Preliminary investigation has revealed short circuit to be the cause of the fire.

As soon as information about the fire was received, fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and tried to control the fire. The Breshtu villagers tried to control the fire at their level, but the fire was so fierce that the houses of seven families could not be saved from burning. The Revenue Department team is assessing the fire incident. According to the Rohru police, property worth more than Rs 1 crore has been destroyed in this incident.
According to Rohru police, there were about 35 to 40 rooms in the multi-storey house that was reduced to ashes in the fire. Seven joint families were living in this house. When the fire broke out around 5 pm, all the members were busy in their daily work outside the house.

Those affected include Dayanand Sharma, Yashwant Sharma, Suresh Sharma, Manmohan Sharma, Ram Gopal Sharma, Pushpa Devi and Anju’s family.
Since the house was made entirely of wood, the fire spread quickly and became difficult to control. Rohru DSP Ravindra Negi said that the administration has made arrangements for the accommodation of the affected people. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Prima facie the cause of the fire has emerged as short circuit.
