Mandi, September 13: On Friday, people from many Hindu organizations came out on the streets demanding the demolition of the mosque located on Jail Road in Mandi city. While protesting, they raised slogans against Muslims, they also vented their anger against the Municipal Corporation, District Administration and the Government.

Around 11:30 am, the protesters gathered near Seri Manch and after that, while taking out a procession in the whole city, they reached Sukodi Chowk raising slogans. The police had already barricaded here and a large number of police force was deployed. When some protesters tried to cross the barricades by climbing them, water cannons were used on them through the Vajra vehicle.

When the protesters tried to move forward, there was a slight jostling with the police personnel. The police did not allow any protester to cross the barricades. As soon as someone tried to climb the barricades, water cannons were poured on them. This entire uproar continued for about one and a half hours. Later, DC Mandi Apoorv Devgan and SP Mandi Sakshi Verma went among the protesters and held talks with some of them, after which the protest gradually ended.

DC Mandi told the media in a statement that he has appealed to the protesters to put their views in writing, on which action will be taken as per the rules. He told that action is already being taken against the illegal construction of the mosque. The illegal construction is being demolished by the mosque committee itself. In future also, whatever action is required under the rules and legal provisions will be taken.

DC Mandi told that the protesters have also demanded to investigate the people coming here from outside states and doing business, which is already being done. He told that the police verifies all such people. In future, it will be ensured that if a person is living without verification, then a thorough investigation will be done and whatever action is required will be taken. He also appealed to everyone to maintain mutual harmony and brotherhood.

At the same time, the protesters did not seem satisfied with the assurances of the administration. The protesters were adamant on the demand that the mosque be demolished with immediate effect. Protesters Gulshan, Sarita Handa and Prashant Sharma said that they are not satisfied with the assurances given by the administration to disperse the crowd and stop the protest. They are not going to sit quiet until the mosque is demolished. If the administration had paid as much attention to taking action against the illegal construction of the mosque as it did today to stop the protesters, then these people would not have been forced to take to the streets today. They have warned the administration that if the mosque is not demolished within 30 days, then an even bigger and fiercer movement will be carried out, the responsibility of which will be of the district administration itself.

Let us tell you that no untoward incident of any kind has happened in this entire protest. No other kind of force has been used by the police except water cannon. Most of the demonstration was peaceful but some protesters tried to cross the barricades due to which water cannons had to be used. On the other hand, the administration and police had completely blocked all types of movement on the road leading to the mosque. Police force was also deployed near the mosque and police guards were posted at all the entry gates to the city.
