Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Shimla, March 27: Bharatiya Janata Party has complained to the Election Commission about the Deputy Commissioners of Shimla, Solan and Sirmour. Bharatiya Janata Party General Secretary Bihari Lal Sharma has written a letter to the Central Election Commission demanding immediate transfer of officers belonging to Shimla and Solan districts.

The complaint has been made that Shimla and Solan are the home districts of the officials who are responsible for conducting elections in Shimla parliamentary constituency. Some officers have completed three years of posting. Superintendent of Police Shimla belongs to Arki of district Solan. Deputy Commissioner Shimla belongs to Shoghi of District Shimla. Deputy Commissioner Solan belongs to Shimla district and Deputy Commissioner Sirmour belongs to Shimla district.

In the complaint given to the Election Commission, it has been written that along with the Lok Sabha elections, notification of by-elections for Himachal Assembly has also been issued, therefore, to ensure free and fair elections in the state, all these officers should be transferred immediately.

Check posts equipped with CCTV to keep a close eye on cash and liquor

The Election Department has geared up to conduct the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in a completely peaceful manner. The State Chief Electoral Officer has given instructions to tighten vigil on all the interstate borders of the state. The check posts established on the borders of the states have been equipped with CCTV cameras so that better monitoring can be done. The borders are being monitored by deploying security forces.

Check posts will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The security personnel have been instructed to keep a close watch on those carrying illegal liquor and large amounts of cash. Every vehicle passing through the check post should be thoroughly checked. If illicit liquor or large amount of cash is found in any vehicle, the SP of the district should be immediately informed so that action can be taken without wasting time.

After the state gets central forces for the Lok Sabha elections, central security forces will also be deployed at the check posts. Instructions have been given to take special vigilance and also seek cooperation from the police of border states to ensure that illegal liquor consignments from Punjab and Haryana do not reach the Himachal Pradesh.

Kuldeep Pathania stakes claim for ticket from Sujanpur

Kangra Central Cooperative Bank President Kuldeep Singh Pathania has staked claim for Congress ticket for the by-election from Sujanpur assembly constituency. He also met Chief Minister Sukhu in Shimla on Tuesday. He has been MLA from Bamsan in the year 1993. He has also contested elections against Prem Kumar Dhumal twice. He has also been the State Youth Congress President. In 2017, Kuldeep Pathania had also contested elections from Hamirpur on Congress ticket. He is a resident of Bohni village of Sujanpur Vis area. Pathania is counted among those close to Sukhu. Pathania said whatever order the party leadership gives will be followed.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, former Congress Industry Minister Kuldeep Kumar also met the Chief Minister. Kuldeep Kumar has been contesting elections from Gagret and Chintpurni.

Ashray Sharma, son of former minister Anil Sharma and grandson of former Union minister Pandit Sukhram, also met the Chief Minister at the Oakover. According to sources, discussions took place between the two at Mandi seat. Congress is also considering Ashray as an option for the candidate. Talks are still going on.
