Lahaul-Spiti: Kunzum Pass Route Connecting Spiti Valley Will be Restored By Last Week of April.

Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Keylong, April 10: Lahaul-Spiti District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said that the work of opening the Kunzum Pass connecting Lahaul with Spiti Valley Kaza sub-division is being expedited. In which teams of 94 RCC and 108 RCC of Border Roads Organization are engaged in opening the road with heavy machines from both sides in adverse conditions.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said that a target has been set to restore this route also in the last week of April. Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar said that Shinkula Pass has also been restored for light vehicles. At present, only light four by four vehicles are being opened for movement on this pass from 10th April from Darcha Police Check Post of Lahaul from 7:00 am to 11:00 am. There will be alternative arrangements for vehicular movement on this pass. On April 11, vehicles will enter Lahaul from Padum Zanskar. For this, personnel of Lahaul Spiti District Police Department have been deployed at Darcha Police Check Post for systematic traffic management.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this route is very important for the movement of local people of Lahaul and people and tourists of Kargil, Padum and Zanskar. The Deputy Commissioner congratulated the officers of 126 RCC of Border Roads Organization and their team for the restoration of the route. He said that a team of 70 RCC of Border Roads Organization is engaged in the work of removing snow from the strategically important Baralacha Pass. It is expected that by April 15, this route will also be restored for light vehicles.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar also said that in view of the by-elections of Lok Sabha and Assembly, due to the model code of conduct, the borders of Lahaul share with the inter state border of Kargil and Leh. District police blocks are also being set up on these routes and strict monitoring is being done through police patrolling.
