Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Dharamshala, March 22: Police have arrested five people for the murder of a tourist from Punjab in Bhag Sunag under police station McLeodganj. The arrested accused were produced in the court, from where they have been sent on five-day police remand. The investigation of this case is going on, while it is feared that the police may also arrest three to four other people on the charges of murder.

According to the information, the police have arrested five accused in the case of murder of a youth from Punjab in a fight that took place in a dhaba in Bhag Sunag, McLeodganj on Thursday.

These people arrested on murder charges were presented in the court on Friday, from where they have been sent on police remand till March 26.
SP Kangra Shalini Agnihotri said that no facts have come to light yet regarding drinking of alcohol in this incident. Police are examining the CCTV footage of the incident site in this case. To ensure that such incidents do not happen at tourist places in future, police deployment will be increased in Bhag Sunag.

Shalini Agnihotri said that preliminary investigation has revealed that there was some discussion regarding eating food in the dhaba and the dispute kept increasing. On this, the Dhaba owner, his son, people from the neighborhood and some taxi drivers beat up Navdeep and his companions. No facts have come to light yet regarding alcohol. CCTV footage has also been captured by the police and is being scrutinized. If anyone tries to delete the CCTV footage, the police can take action against that also. After post-mortem the body has been handed over to the relatives.

Four people from Punjab, Harmanpreet Singh, Gagandeep, Sanjeev Awan and Navdeep Singh, had reached a shop near the parking lot at Bhag Sunag under the tourist city of McLeodganj to have food at around 10 am on Thursday. During this time, there was an altercation between the shop owner and the youth of Punjab over some issue, which later turned into a fight. Along with the shopkeeper, other local people also took part in this fight. Navdeep Singh (33), son of Balwinder Singh, resident of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, Tibbi Post Office, Phagwara Tehsil and District Kapurthala Punjab, suffered serious injuries in the fight. Navdeep Singh died on the way to the hospital.
