TGA (Transposition of Great Arteries) operation has been successfully performed for the first time in IGMC Hospital, Himachal Pradesh. The team of doctors of CTVS department at IGMC Hospital performed the TGA (Transposition of Great Arteries) operation in five hours. Now the patient’s condition is improving after TGA operation. The patient can be discharged from IGMC hospital within one to two days.

Head of CTVS department, Dr. Sudhir Mehta said that a 9-year-old child resident of Theog tehsil of Shimla district had congenital heart defect.

His physical development was much less than that of normal children. Whereas he used to get tired quickly during sports games. Apart from this, lips and fingers of hands would turn blue. In such a situation, when the problem worsened, the child’s parents brought him to IGMC for treatment. The child was examined here in the cardiology department. After which the child was sent to CTVS department. Here the child has been operated upon after Test. After about five hours the child had a successful operation. Now the child’s condition is improving.

Less amount of oxygen was going into the child’s body –

Low oxygen blood was being supplied to the child’s brain, kidneys, arms, hands and intestines. Because of this the child was facing more problems. According to doctors, its operation should be done between 10 days to one month after birth. This is the reason why due to lack of operation for a long time, the child’s weight remained only 20 kg.

Dr. Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of CTVS Department at IGMC Hospital, Dr. Seema Panwar, Dr. Kunal, Dr. Kamal Prakash Sharma from Anesthesia, Dr. Dinesh Bisht from Heart Disease, OT Staff Nurse Reena Thakur, Jyoti Sharma, Meena, Kiran, ICI Staff nurses Neh, Manisha, Chanchal, Isha and perfumer Smriti have assisted in the operation.

Know what is TGA –

After the birth of the child, surgery for heart defect TGA (Transposition of Great Arteries) i.e. transposition of great arteries is done by the CTVS department. Since in this disease the patient’s body is supplied with low oxygen (clean blood), it is cured through surgery.
