In Himachal Pradesh, the weather presents a varied picture with light rain, thunderstorms, and fluctuating temperatures across different regions. Today, areas like Shimla, Mandi, and Nahan might experience light showers, while thunderstorms and lightning are expected in districts such as Chamba, Sirmaur, Kangra, and Shimla. Over the past 24 hours, the state saw light rain and occasional thunderstorms, with the lower hills mostly dry tomorrow and the higher regions like Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti experiencing some rain and snow. Temperatures have remained above normal, ranging from a chilly 6.8°C in Kukumseri to a scorching 43.0°C in Una. Rainfall varied, with Sujanpur Tira receiving the highest at 6.0mm. Keylong is the coolest spot today at 22°C with a high chance of rain, while Kangra remains the hottest at 34.4°C. Meanwhile, the Manali-Leh Highway is open with specific travel restrictions due to weather risks, urging travelers to exercise caution.

Today in Himachal Pradesh, expect a mix of partly cloudy skies and light rain in some areas. Shimla might see some light rain. Mandi and Nahan also have chances of light rain. In Chamba, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra, and Shimla, there could be light rain with thunderstorms and lightning. Kinnaur and Solan might see a bit of light rain too.
In the past 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh had light rain and thunderstorms in some areas. The lower hills like Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Bilaspur, and parts of Mandi, Solan, and Sirmaur saw light rain in a few spots and are expected to be dry tomorrow. The middle hills, including Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, and Mandi, had scattered rain. The higher hills, like Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba, and Kullu, experienced light rain and snow in some places. Temperatures stayed above normal day and night. Kukumseri was the coldest at 6.8°C, while Una was the hottest at 43.0°C. Hail was reported in Una.

Today, there was no major snowfall, but several areas received rain. Sujanpur Tira had the most rainfall with 6.0mm, while Kangra AERO had the least with 0.4mm. Other places like Sundarnagar got 3.2mm, Palampur 3.0mm, Bilaspur AWS 3.0mm, Bilaspur Sadar 2.4mm, Sangraha 2.0mm, Kandaghat 1.6mm, Barthin 0.8mm, Barthin AGRO 0.5mm, Hamirpur AWS 0.5mm, and Kahu 0.5mm.
Today, Keylong is the coolest at 22°C with a 99% chance of rain. Kufri is a bit warmer at 19°C with an 80% chance of rain. Shimla stands at 25.4°C with a 64% chance of rain. Chamba is warm at 34.8°C, and Sundernagar is 33.5°C, both with a moderate chance of rain. Kangra is the hottest at 34.4°C but has only a 1% chance of rain.

The Manali-Leh Highway is now open for traffic with certain restrictions due to the prevailing weather conditions. Starting from May 23, 2024, vehicles such as 4x4s, 4x2s with chains, and heavy trucks are allowed to travel from Darcha to Sarchu between 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Motorcycles are not permitted at this time. The following day, on May 24, 2024, vehicles will be allowed to travel from Sarchu to Darcha. Travelers are urged to be cautious due to the risk of avalanches and rock falls, and to stay at safe places in case of snowfall. All travel is at the traveler’s own risk, and stopping unnecessarily between Darcha and Sarchu is prohibited. Hotel and homestay owners are advised to inform their guests accordingly.
