Twenty new electric buses have been included in the State Transport Corporation’s fleet under the smart city mission in the capital Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu flagged off these buses in Shimla today.

Twenty new electric buses have been included in the State Transport Corporation’s fleet under the smart city mission in the capital Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu flagged off these buses in Shimla today.

With this, now the total number of electric buses in the corporation has gone up to one hundred and ten. Talking to Diary Times, the Chief Minister said that environmental protection will get a boost in the state with the introduction of electric buses.

He said that the government has set a target of making Himachal a green state by the year 2026 and under this diesel buses will be converted into electric buses in a phased manner.

We are currently replacing some buses which are diesel buses because we are getting them soon and some buses we are replacing under electrical. So with this combination we are moving forward in that. So definitely wherever there are remote areas from many places where electrical charging stations have not yet been established.

So we will have to run new diesel buses there, until these charging stations are established, the Chief Minister said that the government is in the process of setting up charging stations for electric vehicles in the state.Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Education Minister Rohit Thakur and local MLA Harish Maratha were also present during this period.
