In this context, Congress MLA from Shahpur Kewal Singh Pathania has been appointed as the Himachal Government Chief Whip in the Assembly. Kewal Singh Pathania is considered close to Chief Minister Sukhu. He is a first time MLA. He had defeated former BJP minister Sarveen Chaudhary.

With the appointment of Kewal Singh Pathania, the Sukhu government has given another important post to Kangra district. After the cross-voting of six Congress MLAs in the Rajya Sabha elections, there was a lot of speculation about the political adjustment of many MLAs of the ruling party, after which the Himachal government has appointed Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania to the post of Chief Whip in the Assembly.

Shahpur MLA Kewal Singh Pathania has been posted as the third Chief Whip of Himachal Assembly. Before this, late Narendra Bragta and Vikram Jariyal had been chief whips in the previous BJP government.

The Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday notified the appointment of Kewal Singh Pathania. The Chief Whip gets the status of a Cabinet Minister. In the present government, Chander Kumar and Yadvinder Goma are cabinet ministers in Kangra district. Yadvinder Goma has recently been made a minister. Apart from this, the government has also given cabinet rank to MLAs Raghubir Bali and Bhawani Singh Pathania.
Raghubir Bali has been appointed as the Chairman of HPTDC, while Bhawani Singh Pathania has been appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Planning Board. Earlier, Rampur MLA Nand Lal was appointed chairman of the State Finance Commission.
It is believed that to remove the displeasure of the MLAs, the Sukhu government can make more postings in corporations and boards before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections.
