A new development plan is going to be made for 59 cities of Himachal Pradesh. It has been made mandatory to have structure design and engineer report for constructing a building. Taking lessons from the natural disaster in the state, Himachal government is preparing a plan on this. This plan is going to be made to construct buildings for urban bodies on the lines of Shimla Development Plan. There has been a detailed discussion on this matter in the Assembly House also. The main reason behind the houses collapsing and getting damaged in natural disasters is said to be the structure design and lack of consultation with engineers. In such a situation, the Himachal government is considering constructing buildings in urban bodies under the plan.

Shimla Planning Area has been approved by the Supreme Court. Under this, permission has been given to construct three to five storey buildings in Shimla planning area. Where there is a five meter road, people can construct buildings up to five storeys, whereas where there is no road, two storey buildings and attics can be constructed. The attic has also been made residential by the Himachal government. Its height is around 10 feet. That means people are getting three floors regarding this. Himachal Pradesh government is considering preparing a similar plan for other urban bodies also. There are 59 urban bodies in the state. TCP Minister Rajesh Dharmani said that there is a need for construction of buildings with plans in the state.
