Reported & Written By Kumud Sharma, Diary Times, Nahan, June 11 :The by-elections to be held on three assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh are once again going to be a tough challenge for the ruling Congress party government. Voting for the by-elections on Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh is going to be held on July 10 and the election results will be announced by the Election Commission after the counting of votes on July 13.In the results of the by-elections held in six assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh a few days ago, the Election Commission has declared four out of six candidates of the ruling Congress party victorious, saving the ruling Congress party government from falling. Now the ruling Congress party wants to strengthen its position by winning the by-elections to be held on three assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh.

According to reliable sources, the by-elections to be held in Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh are not going to be easy for the Congress party at all.

The victory of the ruling Congress party on four seats in the by-elections held in six assemblies of Himachal Pradesh a few days ago has generated enthusiasm among Congress Karyakartas, but it is not going to be easy for the Congress party to maintain the same winning streak in the by-elections to be held in three more assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh.

The entire responsibility of ensuring victory for the Congress party in the by-elections to be held in Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh will once again be on the shoulders of the Honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The Sukhu government of the ruling Congress party will seek votes from the public in the by-elections on the basis of the development work done by Himachal Government during its last sixteen months of tenure.

In the 2022 Himachal Pradesh assembly elections, the Congress party was defeated by independent candidates in Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh.

CM Sukhu’s prestige is going to be at stake in Hamirpur assembly constituency, the hottest seat of Hamirpur, the home district of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

In the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, all three independent candidates who won the elections on Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh seats have now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and it is confirmed that the independent candidates will get tickets from the Bharatiya Janata Party. But after losing four seats in the recently concluded by-elections on six assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party may also give a chance to new candidates on three seats of this assembly by-election.

On the other hand, there is a possibility of giving tickets again to the candidates fielded by the ruling Congress party in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. Let us tell you that in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, the Congress party gave tickets to Dr. Pushpendra Verma from Hamirpur assembly seat, Dr. Rajesh Sharma from Dehra assembly seat and Harpreet Baba from Nalagarh assembly seat. Many senior leaders of the party are also making full efforts to get tickets from Congress and BJP on Hamirpur, Nalagarh and Dehra assembly seats.

The biggest challenge for the Congress party is to win the Hamirpur assembly seat –

Hamirpur assembly seat is considered to be the stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party, And the most important thing is that the ruling Congress party has been unable to open its account on the Hamirpur assembly seat for the last two decades.Anita Verma from the Congress party won for the last time in the year 2003. BJP’s Urmil Thakur was winning in the year 2007, Prem Kumar Dhumal in the year 2012 and Narendra Thakur in the year 2017. But in the year 2022, both BJP and Congress parties had to face defeat from Hamirpur assembly seat and independent candidate Ashish Sharma became MLA for the first time by winning the election from Hamirpur assembly seat. In this by-election, Congress and BJP will make every effort to win the Hamirpur assembly seat.

The hot seat of Hamirpur assembly is considered to be the stronghold of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and fifth time MP Anurag Thakur.Dehra assembly constituency is also a part of Anurag Thakur’s Hamirpur parliamentary constituency. Due to which Anurag Thakur is going to be responsible for getting the Bharatiya Janata Party to win the Hamirpur and Dehra assembly seats. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Anurag Thakur got 15569 votes from Hamirpur assembly constituency and 15317 votes from Dehra assembly constituency.

All candidates have to file nominations by June 21 –

According to the Election Commission, notification will be issued on June 14 for the by-elections to be held on Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh. After that the nomination process will continue till June 21 and the nomination papers received till June 24 will be scrutinized and June 26 has been kept as the date for withdrawal of nomination papers. Then voting will be held on Wednesday, July 10 on the seats of Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh, And after the counting of votes on July 13, the winning candidates will be announced by the Election Commission.

By-elections announced after the resignations of all three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh were accepted –

By-elections have been announced by the Election Commission after the resignations of independent MLAs were accepted in three assembly seats of Himachal Pradesh, Hamirpur, Dehra and Nalagarh. While being independent MLAs, all three MLAs of Himachal Pradesh had supported the ruling Congress party government. But in the Rajya Sabha elections held in Himachal Pradesh Assembly on 27 February 2024, all three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh voted in favor of BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan, due to which despite Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi having the majority, BJP’s Harsh Mahajan was declared victorious in the Rajya Sabha elections by toss system.

After the Rajya Sabha elections, on March 22, all three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh resigned from the assembly membership and joined the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, but Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania did not accept the resignations of the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh with immediate effect, after which a petition was filed by the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh in the Himachal Pradesh High Court to accept their resignations.

On June 3, a day before the results of the Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections were declared in Himachal Pradesh, the resignations of the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh, KL Thakur, Ashish Sharma and Hoshyar Singh were accepted by the Speaker of Himachal Pradesh Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania and after this the membership of the three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh was also cancelled.

The ruling Congress party government is safe in the recently declared results of the six assembly by-election seats of Himachal Pradesh –

There are a total of 68 seats in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. Due to the acceptance of the resignations of three independent MLAs of Himachal Pradesh, three seats are still vacant, due to which the total number of members in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly is 65.

Out of 65 assembly members, the ruling Congress party has 38 and the opposition BJP has 27 assembly members.

The majority figure in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly is 35. The Sukhu government of the ruling Congress Party has a majority as it currently has 38 members.Even after the results of the assembly by-elections to be held on three seats in Himachal Pradesh, the ruling Congress party government is not going to fall.
