Former US President Donald Trump was questioned in a fraud case in New York on Thursday. According to media reports, Trump’s statement was recorded in the fraud trial of New York Attorney General Letitia James. Attorney General Letitia James has filed a fraud lawsuit against Donald Trump and his three children.
A separate criminal allegation against former President Trump surfaced last week, when Attorney General Letitia James accused Trump, his family business and his three children of fraud. The suit was filed in September and is set for trial later this year. According to media reports, James claimed that the assets of the former president were more than billions of dollars. James is seeking US$250 million in the lawsuit.
A person familiar with the matter said Donald Trump answered questions on Thursday. The questions and answers will not be made public immediately. The closed-door statement came a week after Trump’s historic arraignment on criminal charges in a separate case in a Manhattan courtroom.
Trump arrived at James’ office in lower Manhattan around 10 a.m. and returned to Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue shortly after 6.30 p.m. Prior to his testimony, he wrote on the social media site Truth Social that this civil case is ridiculous, just like all the other election interference cases being brought against me.
