In the by-election of Dharamshala assembly seat, BJP candidate Sudhir Sharma got 28,066 votes, the second-ranked Congress candidate got 22,540 votes and the third-ranked independent candidate Rakesh Chaudhary registered 17.29 percent and played an important role in defeating the Congress candidate in a triangular contest.

The Congress candidate who came second got 36.19 percent votes and independent candidate Rakesh Chaudhary who came third played an important role in defeating the Congress candidate by registering 17.29 percent votes.
